Scotty,
a 21-year-old Appendix
(Quarter Horse-Thoroughbred)
gelding, is tattooed from the track.
He
was also a show horse. At 16' 1 hands tall, Scotty came
to us from
his young owner, who turned him
over to avoid prosecution by the
State of Connecticut.
|
When
he came to HORSE, Scotty had an infection -- an open wound
all the way down to his spine -- from wearing a blanket
all winter long that rubbed him at the withers. Scotty had
to take injections into his withers as well as oral antibiotics
to
fight the infection from that wound, and his legs were swollen
due to both the infection and his not moving around enough.

Having
put on 200 pounds, and
with much TLC, Scotty is now a
feisty, older gent who is looking
for a woman who wants to work
with a hot ticket on the ground
and under saddle. He rides
English in the ring and on trails,
where
he goes solo and with
others. Due to navicular changes, Scotty wears bar shoes
and degree pads on his front feet. His rider can weigh
no more than 160 pounds. |

Cases
like Scotty's rescue and rehabilitation are what H.O.R.S.E.
of Connecticut does every day. We do
this work without the benefit of federal
or state funding....just donations from individuals and
some grants. It's an awesome task, but when you meet a horse
like Scotty, you realize how important it is to keep doing
the work every day. After more than 25 years, H.O.R.S.E.
of Connecticut is still committed to this mission. |
