H.O.R.S.E. of Connecticut has a new leasing program for people over 18 who want to ride regularly and find out what is involved in caring for a horse before assuming the costs of horse ownership.

For $300 per month, you can ride three times per week (once in the ring, twice on trails). Tack is included; all you are required to bring are a helmet, boots, treats for your horse, and the time to ride and care for your horse. You must allow time to groom your horse after riding. Your horse is available to you on a month-to-month basis.

For more information, please call Patty at 860.868.1960. H.O.R.S.E. of Connecticut is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

The horses available for the leasing program are:

Lacey, an 11-year-old Quarter Horse-Draft mare standing 15'2 hands tall, is a solid riding horse (English or Western) in the ring and on trails; she loves to lead but will follow, and she will go solo as well as with others. She would be best for a strong rider.

Still growing at 7 years old and 17 hands, Bronson, a Belgian-Quarter Horse gelding, is very solid in the ring and goes out on trails solo and with others. Bronson wants to move and is for an experienced rider only; he would be great for an experienced horse person.

Charlie, a 16-year-old, 16'2 hand
ex-jumper, has been retrained for the trails. He is great on hunter paces and loves to move; he needs a strong, experienced rider. Charlie is not for the faint-hearted! His rider must weigh 175 pounds or less.

Sweet Pea is an 11-year-old draft cross who is indeed very sweet. She would be good for a man or a woman, and she rides English or Western on trails alone or with other horse. Sweet Pea gets along well with other horses and uses a draft-size saddle.

Twenty-five years old and solid for hunter pacing, Espirit, a16-hand Appendix gelding, likes to go for long working trot/canter trail rides with one or more horses. He prefers to go English, and his rider must weigh 150 pounds or less.

Jack is very sweet but needs to be handled/ ridden by an experienced person due to his size. He wears shoes and an extra wide saddle; he also has some injuries and needs a person who understands his limitations. Jack enjoys going for rides down dirt roads, and has been ridden on the trails solo and with other horses.
